In a strong rebuttal to recent opposition remarks, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday underlined the BJP’s philosophy of tireless governance, stating that electoral victories for the party are not occasions for celebration, but signals to intensify public service. Speaking at a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma indirectly took aim at a prominent opposition leader who had reportedly suggested that while one election may bring favourable results, another might not. While he refrained from naming the individual, the Chief Minister described such statements as a reflection of “immature political thinking.”
“How can anyone engaged in public service say one election will be good, the other will be bad? That’s not just immature—it reveals a poor understanding of governance,” Sarma said, expressing concern that such a leader could still be respected by some quarters of the public.Questioning the seriousness of such political posturing, Sarma added, “Does that mean after winning one election, they’ll stop working and prepare to lose the next? That’s not how the BJP operates. Every win is a fresh mandate to work harder, not an excuse to rest.” The Chief Minister sharply contrasted the BJP’s approach with that of the Congress party. He alleged that Congress follows a cycle of complacency, wherein victory is followed by inaction. “Congress has a simple formula—win an election, sit back, and wait for the next. They assume we operate the same way. But we’re driven by a completely different spirit—continuous commitment to the people,” he asserted.
Drawing attention to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Sarma cited the Prime Minister’s recent back-to-back engagements as an example of unflagging dedication. “Just yesterday, the Prime Minister addressed the entire nation. By the next morning, he was already at the Air Base, ready to serve. That’s what leadership looks like. That’s the BJP’s work culture—365 days a year, 24 hours a day,” he said.
