Assam’s Abhinab Gautam bags bronze for India at prestigious Asian Armwrestling Championship 2025

Abhinab Gautam, a rising sports talent from Assam, has etched his name into the annals of Indian armwrestling history by winning a bronze medal at the Asian Armwrestling Championship 2025, held in New Delhi. The championship, which concluded on May 3, brought together the finest armwrestlers from across the continent, and Gautam’s achievement stands out as a proud moment for both Assam and the nation.

Representing India in the youth men’s below 75 kg left-hand category, Abhinab displayed outstanding grit and determination throughout the tournament. The 2025 edition of the championship featured participation from 21 countries, including competitive nations like Iran, Kazakhstan, Japan, and South Korea. Battling it out in a highly challenging field, Gautam’s performance demonstrated his remarkable strength, refined technique, and mental focus.

Abhinab is a student of the College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, under Assam Agricultural University (AAU). His journey from the classrooms and training grounds of Guwahati to the podium of an international championship is a testament to his dedication and hard work. Securing third place in such a prestigious competition has not only brought him individual glory but has also added another feather to India’s cap in the international sports arena.

The tournament, organized under the banner of the Asian Armwrestling Federation, saw an impressive turnout of elite athletes from across Asia. Participants hailed from countries including China, Mongolia, the UAE, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Jordan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Pakistan. In this arena of continental strength, Gautam’s bronze medal win is a commendable feat that reflects India’s growing prominence in armwrestling.

In a brief interaction following his victory, Gautam expressed gratitude to his coaches, mentors, and institution. “I am proud to represent my country and state at such a high level. This medal is the result of relentless training, support from my university, and belief in myself,” he said.
