An unpredictable incident unfolded in Guwahati, Assam Home and Political Secretary Shiladitya Chetia, a IPS officer with a President’s gallantry medal, fatally shot himself to death with his service weapon minutes after his wife died out of Cancer.
According to the reports, his wife, Agamoni Borbaruah was admitted to Nemcare hospital. Since 2 months, she was under treatment for Cancer. Doctor said, her situation deteriorated three days ago, Chetia was informed about the same. And initially on Tuesday she took her last breath, Chetia asked the medical staffs to allow him some privacy for praying next to his wife’s body.
Minutes later a sound of gunshot was heard, Nemcare’s managing director said, “We rushed in and found him lying beside his wife’s body. We tried to save him but couldn’t. He had shot himself.”
However, Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, State’s Chief Information Commissioner said, “He was like a younger brother to me. His life was full of problems. He lost his mother and mother-in-law not long ago. He was taking care of his wife, and was in Chennai for treatment. I was in touch with him and there was no indication that he would take this step.”
Further, DGP G P Singh through X informed, “In an unfortunate turn of events, Shiladitya Chetia, IPS 2009, secretary home and political, took his own life this evening, a few minutes after the attending physician declared the death of his wife who was battling cancer for a long time. Entire Assam Police family is in deep grief.”
