On Wednesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged federal government representatives to move quickly to restart work on the Majuli-Jorhat bridge, which has been halted, across the Brahmaputra River. Sarma emphasized the urgent need to resume construction on the Rs 650 crore project, which has been on hold since September 5, during a video conference with the Director General and Special Secretary of Road Development. Sarma emphasized the significance of acting quickly to enable the bridge’s construction to resume as soon as feasible.
If building does not commence during the current dry season, the project, which was granted in August 2021 with a deadline of December 2025, could have time and expense overruns. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was earlier informed of the situation by Sarma, who suggested re-tendering if required. Ministry representatives are currently considering ways to bring the two-lane bridge project back to life, since it is thought to be crucial for the connectivity and economic growth of the area.
