AAP expands Assam poll push with second candidate list, names six more nominees

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has stepped up its preparations for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections by releasing its second list of candidates, naming six nominees for key constituencies across the state. The announcement was made on March 17, as the party continued its effort to build a wider presence in Assam. With this, AAP is trying to position itself as a serious contender by focusing on both urban and regional seats. In the second list, the party has fielded Ballav Patra from Dispur, one of the most important constituencies in the state as it houses the administrative capital. The choice of Dispur is seen as a clear signal that AAP is looking to make an impact in urban Assam. From Upper Assam, Pranab Priyangshu Dutta has been named as the party’s candidate from Jorhat, a politically significant seat with a strong voter base. The party has also nominated Ranu Mai Teronpi from Barhampur and Biresh Difoesa from Diphu, both constituencies considered important in central and hill regions.

In Lower Assam and Barak Valley, AAP has fielded Saynul Haque from North Karimganj and Elvin Baruah from Palashbari. The spread of candidates across different regions shows that the party is trying to cover a wide geographical area rather than focusing on a single belt. The second list follows the first list of candidates released earlier this week. In its initial phase, AAP had announced a number of candidates from various parts of the state, indicating a planned and phased approach. The first list included Achyut Das from Naoboicha, Pulin Gogoi from Dergaon, Jarbom Kutum from Gohpur, and Anurupa Dekaraja from Central Guwahati. Other candidates named earlier were Ashis Hazarika from Khumtai, Tapan Gogoi from Sivasagar, Tikendra Thapa from Ronganadi, and Zahidul Islam Khan from Chenga.

The party had also announced candidates such as Ranjeet Boro from Naduar, Pallav Saikia from Titabar, Jinna Amir Hussain from East Goalpara, Barun Bikas Das from Raha, Renuka Timungpi from Bokajan, and Ananta Gogoi from Biswanath. The lists were formally announced through a statement issued by Rajesh Sharma, who is the party’s state in-charge for Assam. The statement highlighted that the party is working in a planned manner to strengthen its base in different regions of the state.
