Assam BJP Sharpens Focus on Autonomous Councils and Sixth Schedule Governance

The Assam state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a comprehensive high-level meeting on Monday to review its overall organizational preparedness for the series of upcoming local elections across the state, including key autonomous councils and municipal boards. The strategic organizational session was presided over by state BJP president Dilip Saikia at the party’s official state headquarters, Vajpayee Bhawan, located in the Basistha area of Guwahati. The important deliberation saw active participation from the newly appointed state in-charge Mangal Pandey, along with co-in-charges S. Phangnon Konyak and Manoj Tigga, marking a crucial step in aligning leadership strategies ahead of the local body polls. Primary discussions during the meeting focused extensively on consolidating party machinery, strengthening grassroots organizational outreach, and streamlining electoral campaign coordination ahead of elections scheduled next month for the Mising Autonomous Council, Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council, Tiwa Autonomous Council, and Moran-Matak Autonomous Council, alongside various civic municipal boards. Addressing media personnel following the crucial organizational exercise, Dilip Saikia confirmed that the party has successfully finalized its overall poll strategy and fully completed campaign preparations across all targeted constitutional boundaries. Saikia emphasized that beside evaluating campaign readiness for the autonomous council and municipal board seats, party leaders thoroughly deliberated upon key administrative and developmental issues concerning the Sixth Schedule areas of Karbi Anglong to ensure comprehensive electoral governance and effective regional representation. The meeting brought together key party functionaries, district leadership, and morcha leaders, reflecting the ruling party’s focused drive to expand its footprint in autonomous council governance and maintain its momentum across Assam’s municipal centers.
