Assam Police Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Immigrants Following Multiple Transit Hub Raids

Security forces in Assam have intensified their crackdown on illegal immigration with the Railway Protection Force detaining 57 individuals suspected of being Bangladeshi nationals during a targeted operation at the Kamakhya railway station in Guwahati. The intercepted group, which reportedly travelled all the way from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, was apprehended aboard the Brahmaputra Mail as part of an ongoing statewide drive by law enforcement and intelligence agencies to identify and apprehend foreign nationals allegedly residing within the state without valid travel documents or legal authorisation. As the investigation unfolds, railway police and investigative authorities have yet to officially disclose the specific identities of the detainees or release details regarding any identity proofs, travel tickets, or suspicious documents recovered during the search, noting that comprehensive verification procedures and background checks are currently underway to definitively establish their nationality, entry points into the country, and the precise circumstances surrounding their long-distance journey. This high-profile railway detention marks the latest in a mounting series of security operations across Guwahati aimed at clamping down on unauthorized entries and local facilitation networks. Just a day prior to this sweep, Dispur Police brought in four individuals suspected of foreign nationality for intensive questioning, following a string of earlier arrests where Guwahati Police nabbed 17 suspected Bangladeshi nationals across separate operations, including five intercepted at the Paltan Bazar railway station aboard the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express. Those prior interdictions subsequently triggered raids that led to the arrest of the owner and two managers of the Vintage Home hotel, alongside a suspected local facilitator, for allegedly harboring foreign nationals without proper documentation, while another parallel operation resulted in the detention of 13 suspected Bangladeshi nationals at the Shanti Hotel. As security agencies step up surveillance across transit hubs, hotels, and residential areas in the region, further official details regarding the sweeping Kamakhya railway station operation are eagerly awaited as authorities work to dismantle suspected trafficking networks and tighten border security protocols.
