The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, today highlighted various development and welfare initiatives undertaken by the Union Government.
Addressing the media in Guwahati, Athawale said the Union Government is committed to the development, welfare and empowerment of all sections of society. He highlighted the rapid growth of infrastructure in Assam and said that improved infrastructure has contributed to better facilities and greater convenience for the people of the state. He also appreciated the efforts of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma towards the development of the state and the welfare of its people.
Elaborating on various flagship schemes of the Government, the minister highlighted the achievements under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).
He said that crores of people across the country, including in Assam, have benefited from the scheme. He stated that more than 59 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened across the country, including around 2 crore accounts in Assam.
The Minister also highlighted the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) and said that around 1.34 crore Mudra loans have been provided in Assam, supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses in the state.
Speaking about the youth, Athawale said that the Government is committed to supporting the educational and economic empowerment of young people. He informed that scholarships are being provided to eligible students to facilitate their education and enhance their future opportunities. He stated that every year, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment provides scholarships to more than 1 crore eligible Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students across the country.
Earlier during his visit to Assam, Athawale inaugurated the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan at Chapar in Dhubri district.
