Assam Minister of Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, Kaushik Rai, chaired a review meeting on Monday at the Assam Secretariat with senior officials of the Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department, Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (AFCSCL) and the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to review issues related to the procurement of 10 percent improved rice for the upcoming Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2026–27.
During the meeting, various issues relating to the procurement and delivery process were discussed in detail.
FCI officials assured that all pending lots would be accepted on priority and within the stipulated time period. They also assured that a reconciliation exercise would be undertaken to identify and resolve pending bill payment issues.
Minister Rai urged all concerned to take immediate and necessary steps to expedite the procurement and delivery process, as only a few days remain for completion of the procurement target for the second crop.
Emphasising the importance of close coordination among all stakeholders, Minister Rai directed the concerned officials to ensure timely procurement, smooth delivery and uninterrupted supply of rice to the people of Assam.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department, AFCSCL and FCI.
