Floods continue to disrupt normal life across Assam, with more than 1.70 lakh people affected as heavy rainfall and rising river levels worsen the situation. Although no new flood-related deaths were reported in the latest assessment, approximately 10,362.9 hectares of agricultural land remain submerged, causing significant losses to farmers.
Relief and rescue operations have been intensified in the worst-affected districts. Six teams of the 12th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), comprising 186 personnel and 24 boats, have been deployed in Sivasagar and Charaideo. In Jorhat, two teams from the 1st Battalion NDRF, with 60 personnel and 10 boats, are carrying out rescue operations. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have also been deployed in Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat to assist affected communities.
According to the Central Water Commission (CWC), five major rivers, including the Brahmaputra at Neamatighat, continue to flow above the danger level, raising concerns over further flooding as rainfall persists.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said authorities are closely monitoring the situation and ensuring that relief and rescue operations continue without interruption. Residents in flood-prone areas have been advised to remain vigilant and follow official safety advisories.
