Salaries Drawn By Fake Teachers To Be Recovered With Interest

The Bihar government is now set to take strict action against more than three thousand teachers who secured government jobs by submitting fake educational certificates. The state government has ordered the dismissal of the accused teachers and also directed the initiation of departmental action and legal proceedings.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Bihar’s Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said the decision was taken based on an extensive investigation conducted by the State Vigilance Bureau into the teacher recruitment process carried out between 2006 and 2015.

Mithilesh Tiwari said, “Strict action has been ordered against more than three thousand teachers who secured appointment as government teachers by showing fake degrees and fake educational certificates. This decision has been taken based on the State Vigilance Bureau’s investigation.”

The Education Minister further said that the investigation revealed that certificates were obtained from many fake educational institutions and fake academic documents were used to get jobs.

According to government sources, FIRs have already been registered against many of the accused teachers based on the investigation report. The teachers have also been named as accused.

Mithilesh Tiwari further added, “After dismissal, departmental action will also be taken against the accused. The policy of both the Centre and the NDA government in the state is zero tolerance towards corruption. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had ordered this investigation while he was Chief Minister.”

Officials of the Education Department said that steps will also be taken to recover, with interest, the salaries and honorarium drawn by the teachers during their period of service.

The investigation also revealed that several of the accused teachers had resigned from service before departmental action was initiated. According to the Education Department, applicable legal and departmental action will be taken against such teachers as well.
