He noted that a similar pre-budget consultation exercise was conducted last year and has been continued this year to encourage wider public participation.Saikia said around 200 participants, including experts from agriculture, education, healthcare and other sectors, along with officials from various government departments, attended the consultation meeting and shared their suggestions for the upcoming budget. He added that separate consultations were also held with representatives from the private sector and industry, with nearly 25 stakeholders presenting recommendations on economic growth, investment and employment. Besides the discussions, the government also received several written suggestions from various organisations and individuals for consideration.
Saikia said the views collected during these consultations would help the government prepare a balanced and practical budget that addresses sector-specific requirements while supporting the state’s long-term development goals. Reiterating the government’s focus on inclusive growth, he said the forthcoming budget is expected to prioritise public welfare, strengthen infrastructure, promote economic opportunities and contribute to Assam’s continuing development.
