CERO Strengthens Vehicle Scrappage Ecosystem in Assam with Government-Approved Recycling Facility in Guwahati

CERO, India’s first organised vehicle recycling initiative operated by Mahindra MSTC Recycling Pvt. Ltd. (MMRPL), is strengthening Assam’s vehicle scrappage ecosystem through its Government-authorised Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Guwahati.

The CERO facility, located at Katanipara, Madanpur, near Madanpur Toll Plaza, Mouza-Madartola, is the only authorised vehicle scrapping centre of its kind in Northeast India. Vehicles from neighbouring states, including West Bengal, are also being brought to the facility for scientific recycling.

The name CERO, derived from the Spanish word meaning “Zero”, represents the company’s vision of zero waste and sustainable recycling.

Following the implementation of the vehicle scrappage policy by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Assam government in July 2022, CERO established Assam’s first Government-authorised RVSF in November 2022.

The Guwahati facility has the capacity to recycle up to 36,000 vehicles annually across different categories. So far, the centre has recycled more than 1,300 vehicles.

CERO currently operates seven vehicle scrapping facilities across India and plans to expand its network by setting up 11 scrappage centres across the country.

Speaking about the company’s role in Assam, Sumit Issar, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Accelo Ltd., said the state is an important market for promoting awareness about responsible vehicle disposal and scientific recycling.

He said CERO aims to support Assam’s efforts to remove end-of-life vehicles from roads through a safe, transparent and environment-friendly process while creating a cleaner mobility ecosystem.

Officials at the CERO Guwahati facility said the purchase value offered for an old vehicle depends on several factors, including the vehicle’s category, model and overall condition.

However, on average, owners of a standard sedan car can receive benefits of up to ₹1 lakh to ₹1.5 lakh, including the scrap value of the vehicle, a 25% scrappage-related discount during registration of a new vehicle, and additional scrappage benefits offered by automobile dealers.

CERO provides customers with a hassle-free vehicle recycling experience, including doorstep vehicle pickup, documentation assistance and environmentally responsible dismantling.

Customers can register their vehicle recycling request through CERO’s toll-free number 1800-267-6000 or through its official website. The company manages the entire process from vehicle collection to recycling and documentation closure.

Vehicle owners who scrap their old vehicles through CERO receive a Certificate of Deposit, which can help them avail applicable government incentives while purchasing a new vehicle, including possible road tax rebates, registration fee waivers and manufacturer discounts as per existing norms.

CERO follows a scientific recycling process involving safe dismantling, depollution and recovery of recyclable materials. The initiative supports the national goal of reducing vehicular pollution, improving resource efficiency and promoting a circular economy.
