A young Bihu dancer was killed, and 11 other members of a Bihu troupe were injured after the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a trailer truck in Assam’s Tamulpur on Friday night. Five of the injured are said to be in a critical condition. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Nishamoni Haloi, a resident of Niz Jhargaon under Naokata in Tamulpur district. She passed away immediately.
The death of a promising artiste in the accident has cast a pall of gloom in the area. The group was en route to Tamulpur to perform at a Bihu competition when the accident occurred. The collision took place near Nowakhat village along the Tamulpur-Nagrijuli connecting road. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed grief over the incident and deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
