A man, identified as Ranjit Pandav (42), who had sustained bullet wounds in police firing in Sivasagar district of Assam, passed away at hospital today.
Police opened fire at Pandav when he allegedly tried to attack the security personnel. The incident took place at Bar Diroi village under the jurisdiction of Demow Police Station on Tuesday night.
The police team had gone to the area after villagers informed them that Pandav was creating a nuisance in an inebriated state and attacked a couple with a machete after they went to pacify him. The injured couple is now undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh.
